Three Tips for a Flatter Tummy
Are you having difficulty shedding those last few inches of flab on your tummy? Not to worry — Dr. Donald Hause is here to help. Here, the Sacramento plastic surgeon shares his tips to help you get the flatter, more toned abdomen you desire.
Tip #1: Stand Up Straight
You may already be aware that bad posture can lead to back problems and other health concerns. But did you know bad posture can also cause a stomach pooch? On the flipside, good posture helps keep your spine aligned and your core tight, which helps tone your core muscles. Not to mention, standing up straight makes your abdomen look more toned and automatically helps you look leaner overall.
Tip #2: Focus on Portion Control
Are you eating right but still not seeing any changes in your waistline? Or, worse yet, are you actually gaining weight instead of losing it? The problem may lie in how much you eat. For instance, nuts are much healthier than potato chips but they should be enjoyed in moderation. Read the nutrition fact labels to find out the calorie count and measure out snacks like nuts to keep your portions under control. One way to “trick” yourself into eating less is using smaller plates and smaller serving utensils.
Tip #3: Manage Stress Levels
Stress can have several negative effects on the body, including weight gain. When you are stressed, the body produces extra cortisol, a hormone that encourages the body to store fat, including in the abdominal region. Practicing meditation and yoga exercises can help keep stress at a minimum. Additionally, research shows getting a full night’s sleep (between seven and eight hours a night) can also keep your stress levels low and help prevent your waistline from expanding.
