More Baby Boomers Seek Plastic Surgery As They Re-Enter Dating Scene

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about 20 million baby boomers (people age 55 and older) are currently using online dating sites. What’s more, many of them are pursuing plastic surgery to feel confident as they re-enter the dating scene. Statistics from ASPS show that nearly 50,000 more cosmetic procedures were performed on baby boomers in 2018 than the previous year.

Here, Dr. Donald Hause, one of Sacramento’s top plastic surgeons, discusses this rising trend in detail.

Looking As Good As You Feel

According to ASPS, the divorce rate among baby boomers has doubled since the 1990s, which has led to an increase in dating among this generation. Many of them are dieting, exercising, and prioritizing their health in general as a result. And because many of today’s online dating sites involve making snap judgments based on a person’s looks, baby boomers are turning to plastic surgery to put their best face forward.

“People want to feel and look their best, and they will often tell you, ‘I feel great, and I want to look as good as I feel,'” said Dr. Alan Matarasso, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in a recent press release. “Whether it’s surgical or non-surgical, cosmetic procedures give baby boomers something that they can achieve on their own to feel better, look better, and give them greater confidence when meeting new people.”

Popular Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Based on ASPS’ latest findings, baby boomers accounted for nearly half of all eyelid surgeries and two-thirds of facelifts performed in 2018. Body contouring and breast enhancement procedures are also popular among baby boomers. Both liposuction and breast augmentation were up 4 percent among baby boomers in 2018.

Popular Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are also popular among baby boomers. Both Botox and dermal fillers increased by 3 percent in 2018 from the previous year. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are popular for various reasons. Some baby boomers want to tweak their appearance without surgery while others use Botox and fillers as a way to maintain their results from previous surgeries.
