Body Lift
Some people have almost always struggled with sagging skin. Others have recently achieved dramatic weight loss, but the pounds shed have left unflattering, drooping skin behind. In either of these situations, a body lift may prove transformational. Body lift is a body contouring procedure that not only removes unwanted, loose skin but improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue. Donald Hause, MD is a body lift specialist who has treated thousands of patients and can help you achieve your goal of a taut-skinned body. Here, he explains the areas that are treated in a body lift.
Body Lift Areas
The areas most often targeted in a body lift include the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. Surgeons often separate body lifts into the upper and lower body. If a patient has procedures performed on both the upper and lower parts of the body, it is called a full body lift. While there is scarring resulting from a full body lift, most patients consider this a minor trade-off for the slimmer and overall more attractive physique they get with body lift.
Upper Body Lift
With an upper body lift, excess skin and fat are removed on the upper back (an area where “bra fat rolls” often develop among women), as well as the lower back and waist. Upper body lift may also include removing sagging skin and tightening the underlying tissues on the patient’s upper arms.
Lower Body Lift
Lower body lift focuses on removing excess skin and tissue on the buttocks, thighs, and abdomen. The technique and location of the incisions vary based on the specific body areas being treated. For thigh lift only, an incision is typically made in the inner thigh. For simultaneous lifting of the buttocks, abdomen, and thighs, Dr. Hause makes incisions that mimic the outline of a bikini.
Body Lift Recuperation
A body lift is major surgery. Although most patients can return to work within two to three weeks, they cannot resume strenuous physical activities until the doctor determines they have healed sufficiently. Most patients are cleared to resume all physical activities six weeks after surgery.
Not for Fat Removal
Body lift is not the right procedure for the removal of significant quantities of fat. If, in addition to sagging skin, you want to eliminate surplus fat, Dr. Hause can perform liposuction during your body lift procedure.
