Before and After Tips for Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover TipsBefore and After Tips for Mommy Makeover

Once you have scheduled your mommy makeover surgery, your next step will be to prepare for the big day and the recovery. In this blog post, Dr. Donald Hause of Sacramento Aesthetic Surgery shares the following before and after tips to boost your chances of a safe and beautiful outcome from your mommy makeover.

Before Your Surgery

Fill your prescriptions. During the first few days of recovery, you will experience some swelling and pain. To make your recovery as pain-free and comfortable as possible, Dr. Hause may prescribe some medications. It’s wise to fill these prescriptions ahead of time so they’re ready for you to take right after surgery.

Stock up on recovery essentials. Plan to do some grocery shopping before your surgery. Make a list of necessary items you believe will make your recovery easier.  Buy easy-to-make meals (e.g., frozen dinners), baby wipes, Kleenex and water. Have your favorite books, DVDs and a music player near your bed or sofa.

Prepare your home. Bed rest is a must during the first days after recovery, so it is wise to prepare your home (or the place where you plan on recuperating) ahead of time. Have clean bed sheets and linens ready and lay out your outfits ahead of time (easy to remove, button up shirts, dresses and loose pants are ideal). Complete as much housework and errands as possible before surgery so you have less to worry about during recovery.

Recruit help. After surgery, expect to be out of commission for the first few days. If you have children or pets, we recommend you ask a loved one for help with taking care of them. Loved ones are also a great source of emotional support during the mommy makeover process!

After Your Surgery

Be gentle with your body. Strenuous activities, including exercise and lifting children, will be off limits during at least the first two weeks of recovery. Listen to your surgeon’s orders, as only they can determine when it is safe to resume normal activities.

Wear your compression garment. To help with swelling, your doctor will recommend wearing a compression garment around your waist (if you undergo tummy tuck or liposuction) and one on your breasts (if you undergo breast enhancement). Keep these garments on until your doctor tells you it is safe to remove them.

Don’t skip follow-up appointments. Mommy makeover is a highly customized treatment that is tailor-made to fit the unique needs of each patient. Each patient heals differently than the other. Your follow-up appointments are the only way for your surgeon to adequately assess your healing progress. Depending on how you heal, your surgeon may recommend more recovery time or tips on how to enhance your recovery.
